1. Extract data
First of all, the report provided by the measurement program often does not meet our requirements, so we need to reprocess the data. So the first step is to extract the original measurement data. The original data of Laser Particle Sizer is the volume percentage corresponding to different particle size range. You need to find a way to extract them to MS Excel or similar data processing software. The extraction method will not be described in detail.
2. Processing data
Data processing has two main purposes. First of all, the result of laser particle size analyzer should be a soil particle distribution curve, which is generally an accumulated and logarithmic coordinate axis curve; in addition, the result of soil mechanical composition also includes the analysis of soil texture, which generally determines the soil type according to the soil classification standard, such as clay, sandy loam, etc.
3. Making charts
According to the data processed above, the chart is made to meet the requirements of academic publications. The abscissa is generally logarithmic, indicating different soil particle sizes; the ordinate is the percentage of soil particles smaller than a certain particle size, and the range is from zero to one. Some basic chart processing skills are omitted.
4. Examples of achievements
The data in the figure is based on the analysis results of Malvern laser particle sizer. According to the results of soil mechanical composition, the soil is classified as silt loam
